Shop Your Home: New Life in a New Spot!

As some of you know, we’re in the end stages of the Basement Makeover. It’s really coming together, and now that all the painting and planking is done, it’s onto my favorite part: the fun stuff! I could decorate and accessorize all day long – this is the part that gets me really excited.

First, I tackled the TV wall.

Then came the gallery wall.

And now there’s this little alcove area to the left of the TV wall that needed something. And since we had a gallery wall already across from it, I knew I wanted to go simple…but big. Hmmm…

And then it hit me! Seriously, one morning I woke up and it was THE first thing that popped in my brain. I knew exactly what I needed to do.

Remember that Tree Art project I created last winter?

Well, in typical ND fashion, I’ve been looking at it lately and wanting something different in that space. Ever have something in your home that you like, but…you’re just tiring of it a bit? That’s kinda how I feel about this art.

Since I still do like it, just don’t want to stare at it in the family room anymore, it would be THE perfect thing for the little wall in the basement! YES!

So down off the family room wall it came, and up it went in the basement…

And once you see it in this space in the upcoming reveal, you’ll understand why I love it SO much more down here! It just goes so well with all the colors, the look…it’s like it was meant to be there all along. It has a whole new life.

On the lookout for a cute bench for that spot where my ottomans are, but we’ll get there…

Now, I bet you’re thinking, ‘ok that’s great and all, Liz, but what are you going to put in the family room now?’

Welllll….

I’m almost scared to utter these words for fear that you’ll all think I’m even crazier than you thought I was BEFORE, buuuuttttt….the master bedroom is about to get a new look (yes, even newer than the Jimmy Fallon look I talked about a few months back). But hear me out! We upgraded to a king bed (my Facebook peeps probably saw that post about the headboard last week?), which has spawned a whoooole new thing. I know, I’m insane. Hey, at least I’m set with blog material through 2017 though, am I right?!

And with this upcoming makeover (don’t worry, I’m finishing the basement first, I promise!), I realized the mirror we have in our bedroom (this round one, that was aqua a while back, but has since gotten a grey makeover):

…would be THE perfect thing in that spot!

I mean, RIGHT?

The way it breaks up all the squares and rectangles with the windows in there…and balances my bird cage thingy with the new Book Page Wreath? And the color to boot!? I mean, if these two items in my house weren’t meant for their new homes, I don’t know what is. I love both SO much more in their new spots.

And as for the bare spot in the bedroom? Since the whole room is kind of a mess since it’s about to be redone, I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I don’t think I’ll have any trouble solving that problem.

And who knows? Maybe it’s right under my nose somewhere around here just waiting for it’s new life:)

Here’s to shopping your homes!

Love it! And I love this last shot here. You’re taste is so similar to mine that I find myself drooling regularly and wishing I could reach into the monitor and pluck bits out of your house.

I’m currently itching to switch our dining table out from rectangle to round. And I want to add a credenza for a coffee/tea bar. And I’m dying to paint my sleight bed, but the husband has put his foot down there. *pout*

Keep on posting and inspiring! Can’t wait to see the basement reveal!!

  2. Love it all, I was just thinkinhg today the my oval chalkboard, in my bedroom, would look great in my bathroom!

  3. Love it!! Looks great. I have been following your blog for years. I must say, all your recent updates/changes have been some of your bests!

    Happy Fall…

What kind of paint do you use to paint the mirror? Also, in general, what type of paint do you use? Looks great!

    • Thanks, Kristan! I use samples from all over – (Home Depot) Behr, Sherwin Williams, Valspar from Lowe’s…I’ve got quite a collection over the years, so whenever I do a little project like this mirror, I dig into my stash! Can’t recall the paint color, but SW Grizzle Gray (that I just used on my island) is pretty close. Sometimes I add a little Plaster of Paris to it to make it nice and chalky, but sometimes I just dive right in! Flat and satin are my favorite finishes for things like this.
