The Dining Room at Christmastime: 2015

As you may know, our dining room has probably gone through more makeovers than any room in this house! It used to be dark, then light, then colorful, now…it has a more rustic, natural vibe. (You can see all the different looks in this post).

So this year, I traded in the bright aquas and reds for more subdued colors. Lots of greens, and natural touches.

But enough chatting, let’s dive in with some photos!

Since last Christmas, I’ve painted the chairs grey, which kinda started the whole ball rolling on the makeover…

(that black door! Sorry, still in love with that thing)

…and we put up a fun Coffee Bar, which I was pumped to decorate! I love me some shelves:)

That Toy Shop sign was a Marshalls find, and I recently picked up that lamp and shade from Target. Gosh I love mercury glass. I added some fabric (that I used to use as a tree skirt!) as a little runner. That touch of red plaid really added a festive feel to the table. Then, I just put up some holiday plates and mugs that I’ve had for a while, added some greens and pinecones to the mix, and that’s really all I had to do.

Over on the bench, I have my DIY pillow cover from a few weeks ago that I’m loving…

I’ve also picked up this amazeballs tray from Homegoods since last year, so this was a fun new thing to decorate too!

I added my white lantern in there, and put a really cool candle (Marshalls) inside that is so natural and rustic and lovely. A little strand of berries around it was just the touch it needed to make it all Christmas-y…

I picked up that cute little burlap wrapped tree at Marshalls (geez, I’m a broken record, huh?!), and that glass covered plate was a yard sale find – I just stuck some pine cones and ornaments inside. I always grab a bunch of extra greens when we get our tree, and stick them here, there, and everywhere, so I thought why not throw some in this tray? (Super cheap way to make your house feel and SMELL like Christmas!)

I am kinda in LOVE with this next idea. I wanted to do something a little more interesting for the table runner, rather than just my burlap one. So I was at Walmart and spotted this flat plaid bedsheet for a twin bed. It was like $7 or something. I had an a-ha moment, as Oprah would say;). I folded it in half and placed it going the opposite direction as the burlap runner. It’s a beautiful grey, white, and light brown plaid. How perfect is that?!!

You might recognize that sign from last year’s kitchen! As you’ll see in a couple days when I post the kitchen, I changed a few things in there too, so I decided to move the sign in here.

And you might also recognize my new baskets and DIY boxwood wreaths hanging on the china cabinet…

(Wreath update for curious minds: they’re very dry, but still look just as pretty!)

The chandelier is a great, easy way to make a dining room look instantly festive. I always love to add greens (this is a garland from Michaels), and hang ornaments from the rungs:

And on my little table, just this little boxwood and container (both from Ikea), a little red candle, and some cute cocktail napkins (from Marshalls) are all it needs for Christmas cheer…

I guess that about wraps up the dining room tour! I hope you’ve found some tips you can use to bring a holiday touch to your home!

9 more days…..!!!!!???
