The Forever Changing Mirror

It’s no surprise that I like to change things up all the live long day. I give things a new coat of paint faster than it takes milk to spoil. Ok, maybe I’m not that bad, but my family always jokes that if they stay still long enough, I’ll paint them. And I just might…

I have this mirror. It was gold in its original state, and hung in my parents’ living room my whole life. I can’t BELIEVE I didn’t take a before picture of this mirror – what was I thinking?! I hadn’t started blogging at the time I first painted it though, so that’s probably why…

They were getting rid of it, so I gladly took it off their hands. First, I painted it black…

Can you believe that was our dining room way back when?! Hardly remember it like that!

Then, I painted it white when I gave the room a makeover…

That’s the same buffet too, in white! Crazy what paint can do, huh?

THEN (yes, it’s changed even more!) I painted it blue…

And I thought I liked that…but for some reason it’s always kinda bothered me. Not sure what it was, just wasn’t vibing with me, you know?

So the other day, on a whim, I grabbed it off the wall, looked in my samples (this was one of the times where it’s awesome to be a paint sample hoarder), grabbed a brush, and went to town.

I am the world’s most ridiculous painter. I didn’t even bother to use painter’s tape other than that tiny section (I got bored), and I didn’t lay it on any newspaper or anything. I get so wrapped up that I just want to start and tell myself it’s more fun to clean up that take your time beforehand. Not true, FYI. Do yourself a favor and DON’T be like me.

And a short time later, it was back up on the wall! Talk about a ‘naptime’ project!

It’s not all that different, in fact, my husband didn’t even know I had painted it until I told him! But to me, it’s SO much softer and less BAM! IN YOUR FACE! Know what I mean?

And I love the way it looks opposite the plate wall.

I hung my little peep wreath on it and I love it even more.

I wish I could tell you the paint color I used, but I mixed a bunch of samples until I had just the perfect shade – when you’ve got a little project like this, and don’t have the right color, don’t be afraid to mix and match. Make your very own custom shade that makes you happy.

So that’s the mirror for now…who wants to make a bet it’ll change before the end of the year ? month? week? 😉

Did you use Chalk paint ?

  3. I really like the latest color choice. A shade lighter than the chairs from what I can see. Ads a little more depth to the whole scheme.

  4. Love the soft blue you came up with…everything looks wonderful!

  5. The new color looks great.

  6. Looks great! Love the new color! 🙂 On an unrelated note, where are your couches from? I love the look of white, but have been terrified with the kiddos to take the plunge. I thought I remembered that yours have slipcovers and are super easy to maintain, but I don’t remember where they’re from? Thanks! 🙂
