The craziness (although fun!) of Halloween has come and gone, and we’re getting so close to Christmas I can almost smell it. This time of year…oh, I adore it! Which is why, usually come November 1st, I am de-Halloweening the house and busting out the Thanksgiving decor. It’s really not a whole lot, since most of the fall decorations just stay around, but there are certain things that are strictly Novembery. Don’t you love these words I’m throwing out here?! And to think I was once an educator in my former life;) And much thanks to Pinterest, there are even more ideas for me to use in our home for this wonderful month. I feel like I better get on these things, for this time is brief. Yes, I am one of those who literally wake up on the day after Thanksgiving, go grab the Christmas bins and spend the entire day Christmasizing our house. There’s another word. Wonder if any of my former students are reading this blog?! If so, I’m way busted…
So I went to the Dollar Store the other day – by the way – run, do not walk to your nearest Dollar Store right now! The one here at least, was FILLED with gorgeous white plates, bowls, mugs, with a raised dotted pattern around the edges – they were lovely. And beautiful silver trays that I could picture lining the dining room table with candles and greens on them…if I were hosting a holiday dinner party, I would have seriously stocked UP. I promise you, you could spend probably $20 and have the most elegant, gorgeous table for the holidays with the stuff I saw there. In hindsight, I should have grabbed everything, but something else caught my eye and got sidetracked. Plus, we know how much you can really *shop* with little ones around, so I was kinda in and out;) I saw these glasses…
These are heavy, solid glasses. They just feel like they’re worth so much more than a buck! So I grabbed six, since I had a vision…
You know I’m always on the hunt for something low for our mantel, since our tv is mounted above it, leaving me a few inches to play with. So I thought, maybe I could use my stencils (yes, AGAIN!), and write out the word t-h-a-n-k-s, and fill them with votives and itty bitty fillers, like tiny acorns/pinecones/cinnamon stick pieces, etc. I put the kids down for naps the other day and got to workin’.
I had no idea how this was gonna go, since I’d never taped a stencil around a round glass surface before, but my little foam brush worked perfectly. I used a cream color acrylic paint I already had in my stash, and I think for $6 it turned out pretty cute!
And just for fun, some daytime pics too;)…
I didn’t have enough votives to fill all 6, so I just put some cinnamony-scented potpourri from Michaels in there for now. I also weaved some garland I had around the glasses, and threw some pinecones and pumpkins in the mix too. I know, I thought I had already done the Fall Mantel, but you know me. Can never leave well enough alone;).
Ah, Thanksgiving. So nice to give thanks, reflect on all our blessings…like our family, our health, our home, and of course, our Dollar Store…;)
Stay tuned for more Thanksgiving Decor this week!
Love it thank you for the great idea!!
