We Need To Talk…

So I ran into a friend last week. We were catching up, and she says, “Saw on Facebook that you posted a blog yesterday – but to be honest, I haven’t read it yet. I’m not ready to see another perfectly gorgeous project and feel terrible about my house!” She was laughing, but it got me thinking…

Geez, I would never want anyone to feel that way when they visit this blog!! Like, if there’s something I’d want you to feel the opposite of, THAT would be it. I want you to visit this little blog of mine and feel a) like we’re old friends, b) inspired, and c) like you can TOTALLY do this stuff because more than likely, if I can, so can you.

That, my friends, is what I want you to feel when you click that post link.

I laughed with my friend and told her, ‘oh my goodness, if you only saw behind the scenes in those photos! Or what those rooms look like every day when they’re NOT being photographed for a blog post!’

Really.

My boy’s room I just posted a few months ago? This shot was taken this morning.

Real life

Real life

And the big girl room makeover I completed not long ago, where everything was in place and perfect?

You guessed it.

Real life

Oh, and my younger daughter’s sweet little room?

Real life

About half of those glass knobs on her nightstand are now missing, by the way.

Then there’s the time I started painting the hallway (see ya, gold!), and couldn’t reach the rest of it.

So I left it like that, waiting for an extension roller…or something.

That was oh, about a year ago.

Real life

YES. A YEAR.

There’s an embarrassing amount of cobwebs up there too – don’t look too closely;)

My office, where I’m sitting right this very moment, has a desk with 978 ‘important’ papers on it, a random red balloon floating around (because why wouldn’t there be?!), a giant pool bag, a Fall bin I started diving into the other day…you get the point.

Real life

So friends, my dear, sweet friends. Don’t ever think it’s perfect around here on a daily basis. ‘Cuz it ain’t.

Not even close.

Next time you see a post, I hope you’ll keep this in the back of your mind.

The Naptime Decorator is up to her eyeballs in laundry, unfinished projects, and messy bedrooms, just like the rest of the universe.

Though I *might* have something the rest of you don’t have…

Real life

Pink tile, circa 1965 in the upstairs bathroom. (There’s even a tub to match!)

I know, I know…now you’re REALLY jealous!

😉

Love you guys! XO

    Great post! You’re adorable!

  6. I feel ya, girl! While I want to be OCD and have the perfect house, three kids, two dogs, a hubby and a full time job keep it real. #momproblems

  7. Wow some people take things the wrong way!! Everyone has the house clean for about 10 sec. with kids!!! Or even life. I wouldn’t want it any other way with kids. I enjoy the DIYs that you do and others that I check in on and think okay I can do that. Or good idea. Keep posting and don’t let the haters get to you!!! 😉

    • Thanks, Kathi! Glad you enjoy this blog of mine! Means so much! 🙂 I should have explained it better though, that my friend was totally laughing and it was all in jest – but I saw what she was saying and thought maybe others might actually feel that was FOR REAL! And hence, this post was born…;) Have a fabulous day! XO

  8. I throughly enjoy your blog , your talent and your humour. You keep it real Liz , I’m glad to see your reality is like everyone else’s! You inspire me to be crafty 🙂

  9. I love all your posts!! And now I love them more… and yes its like an old friend… beautiful at first, but once you see the real side the bad n the ugly, than you see the beauty even more! Thank you for inspiring and yet keeping life real at the same time…the perfect blend for a friend and a blog indeed!

  10. I love this post so much! I also love what you said about why you share the links and projects. It is so that anyone can do it. You are not trying to show off, you are wanting to show other people the DIY light. If you are into decorating, DIY or have a blog about those things, there is almost always at least one project in the process of being worked on, so many crafting tools… it gets rough. I like to share “real life” on my social media. The mess, the projects in the middle of being worked on. BTW, your kids rooms are not too bad. Mine take the mess thing to a whole new level.

  11. You just made my day!!! Great post:) love everything you blog about!

  12. That was awesome! Ps. I love the files in your office!

  13. Love it…I currently have a random blue balloon floating around my feet! Ha ha!

HaHa. This made me laugh! We are in the process of selling our home and the work that goes into showing it is exhausting!!! I kill myself making it look like no one lives here or sleeps here or uses the bathroom. I need a drink, but I don’t want to dirty a glass.😕

  15. Jennifer Atallah says:

Liz, Your ideas are so inspiring and your writing is a fun conversation! Keep blogging!

  16. What a wonderful post!! Facebook can be tough sometimes. It’s everyone’s highlight reel!

  17. Loved this post! I really look forward to reading your blog!

  18. I <3 this post SO VERY MUCH!

  19. LOVE this post! Thank you for being brave and showing behind the scenes! 🙂

  20. Hi Liz, Yes I think people need to realize that when we blog obviously we’re going to show our house looking it’s best or at least push everything out of the way so it looks it’s best lol….we all have messy houses and blogging ‘perfect’ pictures doesn’t change that. I’m sure you’ve just made everyones day showing how it really is on a daily basis. xo
