Easy Patriotic Map Art

My girlfriends came over last night for Craft Night. We decided to do a Patriotic theme, with July 4th around the corner.

I honestly couldn’t decide/think of what to do, and decided the DAY OF. I looked in my craft stash for inspiration, and realized what I had in mind could happen with just the purchase of one sheet of navy blue cardstock.

I kinda wung it up until the last minute – I had planned to do more, maybe a quote, or something…but in the end, the consensus was less is more.

Meet my Easy Map Art…

To make this, I used:

-8×10 frame (I had a wooden one on hand, so just used some white craft paint to make it white – go with whatever finish suits your fancy)

-red and white striped cardstock paper (from Michaels)

-navy cardstock (from Michaels)

-map stencil

-glue stick or mod podge

-white cardstock to cut a star out of

-scissors

To make my map stencil, I used the same technique that I used when I made my DIY Crab Art – googled images of maps and traced my computer screen with the thinnest paper I had. I cut it out and traced it with pencil onto the navy paper.

The rest is pretty self explanatory. I cut the red striped paper to fit the frame. I cut out the blue traced map, and used the slightest bit of Mod Podge on the back of it so it would adhere to the red striped paper. Stuck it on the striped paper, then cut out a tiny white star out of white cardstock, and glued it onto Maryland’s spot on the map.

Placed it all in the frame and done!

So simple, but I love it!

I leaned it up against the back of my bookcase in the family room and it adds just the perfect patriotic touch!

Stay tuned for more red, white, and blue goodies, courtesy of my crafty girlfriends! 🙂
