Easy Wall Art and a Peek at the Shared Girls Room

It feels so good to be writing a blog post again! To be perfectly honest with you, I’ve been in kind of a slump. Don’t know why, but it happens from time to time and eventually I climb out of it. But there’s nothing like a good thrifty DIY project to get the creative juices flowing again, so I’m excited to share this one with you today!

As you might’ve heard, my girls decided they want to share a bedroom. Unlike my sisters and I were growing up, they actually are the best of friends (didn’t happen for us till we left for college;), so we thought it was sweet they wanted to do this and agreed. I found a set of twin headboards and footboards on a Facebook yard sale page, slapped some white paint on them, and tried to think of something creative to place above each bed…

Then it hit me. I saw a dowel in the basement, leftover from a project…I cut it in two pieces. Grabbed some old flowers from my younger daughter’s old room that will now become a play/hang out space for them…and white yarn…

I started with one piece of yarn, tied it on each end like this:

Then, I cut strings at different lengths, and knotted the roses along them…and in no time, I had 100% FREE wall art for above their beds!

You might recognize the sconces too – they’re the IKEA ones that I spray painted coral from my daughter’s old room. They were a deep, bold shade of coral, and we no longer have that color in here. So I gave them a couple coats of gold, which I thought would look nice against the Sea Salt painted shiplap, and also bring out the gold accents in here.

It’s so cozy walking in here at night when they’re reading in bed with the lamps on.

I love that I was able to reuse old stuff to create one of a kind wall decor for my girls. They squealed when they came home from school and saw it – and that is just the best feeling ever.

Let’s talk about the beds too while we’re in here!

Here’s what they looked like before:

I picked them up from a guy who said these belonged to his aunt and were at least 100 years old. Isn’t that cool? And still sturdy and in great shape. I love that they have so much history, and now new life in my girls’ room. I washed them really well – they were pretty filthy from sitting in a garage for who knows how long! Then after they were dry, I just took some primer and paint in one – Behr Bit of Sugar in flat finish – and a brush and went to town. I love how they turned out —

Still a good bit to do in here, but we’ll get there! They’re loving their room together so much, and the furniture fit so well in here, it’s like it was always meant to be for two! They’re requesting a big white Christmas tree in here for the holidays – which I might just have to indulge (well sort of, maybe a bigger-than-mini-tree-but-not-full-size!) – how fun that would’ve been as a kid!?

Sorry again for being MIA for so long. I feel like I’ve got my mojo back now, so hopefully you’ll be hearing from me again sooner rather than later!
