The 3 Things Our House Uses The Most

The idea for this post came to me at midnight last night, as I was trying to sleep…as most of my ideas do. (Really need to get that notebook on my nightstand one of these days!). I was thinking of some of the things in our house that are constantly in use. They move from room to room, serve lots of purposes…and are pretty darn helpful to have around. I thought maybe it’d make a good post – in case you ever spot one of these at the store and feel like treating yourself (and your house) to something that not only looks cute, but super functional as well.

1. Big Baskets – I mean, COULD NEVER LIVE WITHOUT THEM. They’re cute and they can store anything your heart desires. Win-win. I love that one in the photo above I picked up for extra pillows in our bedroom.

And it’s a lifesaver having them by the door filled with shoes:

We also have one in our family room that usually holds throw blankets and gets moved all over the place;)

But at the moment, it’s in a corner near the front door for easy access to the zillion different sports balls my kids grab as they run in and out…and in and out again. And again. And again. (Guess I should erase ‘cozy’??!)

So as you can see, these big baskets are godsends. Highly recommend one…or two…or three…for your home.

2. Stools – man, do we use these! We have them all over the house. Basement, family room, kitchen, bedrooms…they’re great to have. One of my favorites is this garden stool (from Lowes) that you never know where will pop up. It’s been in our office:

…then it popped up in my daughter’s room:

And THEN in the family room as a little table:

(You can see the basket in yet ANOTHER spot in this photo, too!)

Currently, the stool is next to our sofa as an extra landing place. Garden stools just plain rock. So many uses and places they’ll work in a home.

We also have a few other stools that pop up everywhere. These metal/wood Target stools are great in a corner as a plant stand:

In a bathroom by the shower to hold a couple towels:

And we have a different one in the basement for an extra seat for the game, or to hang out in between dartboard rounds, or to reach a high spot on a chalkboard;)

Point is, you’ll ALWAYS be able to find a spot for a stool. Promise.

3. Ottomans/Poufs – These guys are THE BEST. We use the heck out of ours. They add seating, texture, and let’s face it – they’re just plain cute to look at, too. The ones in our family room that I got last Fall are used all day long by kids and grown-ups alike. Great to prop up your feet, great to sit on, great to play on (just ask my kids as they roll around on them like a tire;)…

And the ones we used to have in the family room? Remember those old leather ones I updated? They’re getting a ton of use in the basement. Here’s a shot of one of them in this pic:

Perfect to move all over the place – and that they do!

So those are my top three. The things we use to death in this house – would love to hear what’s on YOUR list!

Comments

  1. Blankets! With a hubby who is hot natured and would love nothing more than to keep the house at 60 year round, this gal’s gotta have a blanket (and a hoodie) within reach at all times. And it just makes for a great accessory to snuggle up with for movie nights (and blanket forts)

Where did you get your poufs?

  3. Hi – can you please source the white flowers in your white pitcher in the 9th photo? Thanks!
