When Life Throws a Curveball…

This isn’t a decorating post.

It’s not a Favorite Things Friday post either.

But it’s something my heart is telling me to share. Forgive me if I’m all over the place – feeling a lot of feels right now. (I shared this on Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday, but I know I have readers that aren’t on social media (Hi Mom!), and this story is just too incredible not to post on here as well. Also, it explains why I haven’t been able to write a decorating post or Favorite Things. This week has been quite unusual…)

We’ve ended up in the hospital early Sunday morning. My middle had a scary incident that caused a very bad infection. We went to the ER and were admitted so she could get IV antibiotics and ended up spending two nights there. We were able to come home today.

But God’s grace, you guys.

What could’ve been a miserable experience was anything but. I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt his hand every minute of every day. I mean- just one example: one of her best friends ended up there yesterday and they played checkers and shared war stories as they both had IVs hooked up in their arms. They discussed what room service meals they liked the most and the fun beds that move with the push of a button. It was like a big ol’ party, with our families and grandparents there…seriously. We just kept saying, “I don’t even believe this.”
We propped our doors open and walked back and forth like we were in college dorms.

And the care. Oh the care we received. The best doc around was there the whole time. The nurses. I can’t even. My daughter actually loved them so much she drew a thank you card for them and said she didn’t want to leave. Did I mention one of my best friends works there and was there too? She looked out for us entire time. Before we even left our house, she was on it. At 7am from her house. On a Sunday morning. For real.

And this typically worrywart mom was surprisingly at ease.

You can tell me all of this was coincidence. But I’ll never believe you.

We were never promised a life that’s without pain and suffering. I think that’s where a lot of people lose their way. They think “if there was a God, this wouldn’t happen.” But crappy things do. It is not a perfect world. But in the crappiest of circumstances, if you open your eyes…you will see how crazy amazing our God works through it all. Watching our kids playing and smiling in the hospital yesterday, I said to my mom, “this is one of those God things. He knew we were all going through some hard stuff and look at what he blessed us with.”

Amazing.

And just when you get so tired of the mundane life things…the laundry, the cleaning, the running around to this sport and that- He reminds you that all of that ‘boring stuff’ is downright glorious. I’ve never been so happy to wash sheets and vacuum and set a table for all of to gather around tonight. All five of us.

Tonight, I’ll sleep in my comfy, fresh sheeted bed, and thank God that we are safe and healing and home.

What a wonderful place to be.

Amen.

Friday update: She’s doing much better and was even able to return to school yesterday. It’s 80 degrees today, the windows are open, and it feels like a fresh new season. I know I say “Happy Friday” a lot, but it truly is the happiest of Fridays this week! Thank you, God. Hope to be back next week with some decorating posts for you! XO

I have just recently started following your blog and I wanted to let you know that I truly look forward to your emails. I am sorry that your little one got so sick, but it is amazing how God is always there to comfort us. I also believe that God was there with all of you- crazy how he even placed her best friend near! There’s a book called “God Winks”. I bet you’d enjoy it. Many blessings … by the way I love your decorating!
