New Life to a Favorite Table and Chairs

Once upon a time, we had two daughters. We bought them an adorable white table and colored chairs, in sweet pink, aqua, yellow, and lime green. It was just perfect for their size. And for tea parties, which happened almost daily.

You can see, we then had a son, who also enjoyed partaking in the tea parties;)

This table got a LOT of love. And when I say A LOT, I mean A LOT…

That’s the top of the table. Stickers, marker, crayon, glue, glitter…you name it, it’s on there.

And the chairs. Oh my, the chairs…

They don’t look so bad from afar, but every single one of them was wobbly, chipped, stickered, you get the point…

They’d have performances and concerts out in the yard, and set them up for their “audience”, then leave them in the rain for weeks…probably not good for wood, I’m guessing?! Needless to say, they were NOT in the best condition.

But this table is one of those near and dear to my heart pieces of furniture. So much stuff happened around these four chairs. And now those tiny kiddos have gotten bigger and have pretty much stopped using them. In fact, we cleared the basement at Christmastime to set up our train table, and put this set in the laundry room to get it out of the way, and not one kid has asked where it went.

They’ve pretty much outgrown it completely.

…EXCEPT for our son. He’s still got a good year, probably more before he’s too big to sit around it.

And he just happens to have a room that I’m working on.

See where this is going?!

So I took the table outside. I sanded it pretty good, wiped it clean, and gave it a fresh coat of white spray paint and primer in one. Turned out looking BRAND SPANKING NEW.

I took the beat up chairs and tightened all of them with an allen wrench so they were no longer wobbly. Then I laid them on old sheets outside, sanded them a little so the chipped paint was smoothed out, wiped them with a damp cloth, and spray painted them. Two chairs got a couple coats of Rustoleum Paint and Primer in One, in Granite (gray), and two got Valspar Indigo (navy blue). Both in satin finish.

And now, we have a kinda-sorta-brand-new table and chairs for Noah’s room!

And check it out…they love it again!

And I don’t have to get rid of it just yet…everybody wins;)

Turned out great! We had gotten a similar table set for our grandson who is now 4. My husband turned it into a awesome lego table! He put a little bigger piece of wood on top of table & added a ledge all the way around for the Legos to sit in! Came out great & his mommy loves that the Legos are self contained:)

  2. What colors did you use? Looks great!

  3. The re-do looks great! It looks ready for a whole new round of adventures!

My little guy noticed the Captain America shield on the pants in the last picture and requested some. So, can you help a fellow mom out and share where you found them? 🙂

Thank you for showing us this project. I searched Rust-Oleum Granite Satin spray paint on Pinterest and found you. I was debating on painting my kids chairs this color. I had already bought the paint but was going back and forth. I can’t believe you completed the EXACT project I’m about to embark on. Thanks for helping me make an easier decision. Your project turned out beautifully!
