DIY Bunny Garland and a Touch of Spring in the Dining Room

My girlfriends came over last week for our monthly Craft Night (post to come soon!). I decided to make a super easy, super cheap, super quick craft: a bunny garland. All I needed was a few sheets of cardstock! I had everything else -scissors, glue stick, a hole punch, a stapler and jute. That’s all I needed to make this:

At first, I was going to hang it on my mantel. That’s why I bought cardstock in a tan and navy blue – those colors would work great in the family room…but I hung it up and it was just too much. Between the busy bookcases, it just looked wrong.

Now that the dining room is getting a little makeover, the new rustic look lends itself well to these colors – perfect! I hung it up on the china cabinet and it was just right. (Please excuse the inside of the cabinet – haven’t touched that in a while and it’s starting to become just a landing spot for odds and ends!)

Back to Craft Night and how I made this easy garland…

First, I drew a bunny shape on scrap paper. (Took me quite a few tries to get a good one!;)

Then I placed it on the tan cardstock and cut it out.

Then I glued the tan bunny onto the navy blue cardstock and cut out the shape, but just a little bit bigger, so it had an edge of blue.

Punched holes in the sides, looped a strand of jute in them, and realized it needed a tail…

I’ve always wanted to try this 3D technique, and luckily I had white cardstock on hand. I cut out a few circles, stacked them up, and stapled them onto the bunny.

Then just fold the sides up – boom! Instant tail!

That’s all she wrote…

And yes, we’re all snowed in today, with a good 8 inches of snow outside (and still falling) and yes, I have forsythia in a pitcher with Easter eggs, along with a blue bird on my tray. Hey, Spring is only 15 days away!

I had to laugh, because looking at these photographs of this side of the dining room, you’d never guess this was going down on the other half at the same time…

Ah, gotta love a snow day! 😉
